About

the start

Nova Radix started as a wild idea over a lunch in Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina, when a Belgian lawyer-turned-sommelier (Anneleen) and an Argentinian winemaker (Emi) decided to buy some grapes and make low intervention wines from Criollas that otherwise would have withered on the vines.

the mission

Nova Radix' mission is to revalue native grape varieties to preserve biodiversity in viticulture in the next years.

After they made their first wine together, Anneleen realized that the problem facing grape growers in Mendoza was a broader problem facing grape growers everywhere. Native grapes are often devalued in their home market as they are often perceived as lesser varieties destined to end up in cheap bulk table wine. That results in grape growers pulling out their old vines of these ancient local varieties and replace them with more marketable and fashionable international varieties. That in turn results in a rapid decline in biodiversity in vineyards across the world.

Nova Radix is changing that. By making wine lovers fall in love with native grapes and having them buy delicious low intervention wines from native grapes in advance, winemakers are incentivized to keep their native grapes and vinify them.

the deal

By signing up to a Drop in advance, you fund a wine that otherwise would not have been made, and you help preserve (bio)diversity in viticulture.

Who knew you can save the planet by drinking great wines?

the who

Nova Radix is owned and ran by Anneleen, a Belgian lawyer-turned-sommelier-turned entrepreneur. While lawyering for a large direct-to-consumer business, she learned the ropes of service and wine pairings in a restaurant in Brussels, Belgium. She obtained her WSET Diploma in 2023. She is on a mission to have people appreciate the diversity of wines that exist in the world, and has a fondness for wines made from lesser-known native grapes.
