the
startNova Radix started as a wild idea over a lunch in Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina in 2024.
That is when a Belgian lawyer-turned-sommelier (Anneleen) and an Argentinian winemaker (Emi) decided to buy some grapes and make low intervention wines from Criollas that otherwise would have withered on the vines.
It was the start of the first Nova Radix wines, NRx, NR1 and NR2.
the
missionNova Radix' mission is to revalue native grape varieties to preserve biodiversity in viticulture for the next 100 years.
Native grapes are often devalued in their home market as they are sometimes perceived as lesser varieties destined to end up in cheap bulk table wine.
That results in grape growers pulling out old vines of these ancient local varieties to replace them with more marketable international varieties - a recipe for rapid decline in biodiversity in vineyards.
Nova Radix is changing that.
By making wine lovers fall in love with native grapes and having them buy delicious low intervention wines from native grapes in advance, winemakers are incentivized to keep their native grapes and vinify them.
the
ideaBy signing up to a Drop in advance, you help fund a wine that still needs to be made.
Nova Radix uses that money to commit to winemakers to make wine from their native grapes (and buy that wine) from them at fair prices.
This in turn incentivizes winemakers to keep growing and vinifying those grapes.
Winelovers in turn get a limited edition wine that is made just for them, from a new native grape.
the
founderNova Radix is owned and ran by Anneleen, a Belgian lawyer-turned-sommelier-turned entrepreneur.
While lawyering for a large direct-to-consumer business, she learned the ropes of service and wine pairings in a restaurant in Brussels, Belgium. She obtained her WSET Diploma in 2023.
She is on a mission to have people appreciate the diversity of wines that exist in the world, and has a fondness for wines made from lesser-known native grapes.
